Why Are We Building?

In 1998: We had a clear stated desire to Recapture Our Mission

1999 God Fulfills a Dream: Our New Mission Statement:

Welcome All, Tell The Story,  Grow as Disciples

In the 80s - 90s: Adult Spiritual Growth is a Goal: “Small Group Ministry” is the Biblical Path

In 2004 God Fulfills a DREAM : “40 Days of Purpose” launches

  • 28 Small Groups with 240 People
  • Lives are changed
  • Small Group Life is Alive at St. John’s

In ‘99 we dreamed about Reaching Sunday School parents & others not served by traditional worship.

2001 God Fulfills a Dream “The Bridge Service” contemporary worship is a welcome to many people & we grow!

In ‘98 we abandon the old “youth group” ministry model for “Youth-&-Family Ministry”

1999 God Fulfills a Dream: Confirmation is revolutionized into “Head to Heart” Confirmation. Teens actually invite other kids!

In the 90s we begin to learn real faith formation happens in the Home!

2000: God Fulfills a dream: Faith Stepping Stones puts real faith sharing into the hands of parents (not pastors) from Birth and Baptism to Graduation.

We discover Mission Trips to Third World Countries will deepen our Faith!                  2003: God Fulfills a dream: Two Teens Initiate our first International Mission Team trip to the Dominican Republic. The seventh team leaves this June, 2009.

We see the need for more experienced pastoral leadership: answers to prayer: 1999 Pr. Otto joins our staff; 2000 Pr. John becomes one of us!

My Goal in ‘98: “That Prayer would become normal everywhere” says Pr. David.         2009 God is fulfilling this dream:  Prayer is bursting out all over: prayer ministers, Small Groups pray, teams and Council pray, prayer group prays, prayer partners, wellness team visitors, prayer chain, Parents and kids pray together, Assisting Ministers, healing prayer services, Taize services…..

2004 We dream of exciting new ways to do Sunday School

2005: God Fulfills a Dream: Workshop Rotational Sunday School begins with inter-generational innovative learning involving many parents and other adults.

A new (but getting old) Dream: since 2004, ‘06, ‘08 and …. “Reach more people who need Jesus by adding another contemporary service, and thus, break the 400 barrier”   (avg weekend attendance)

But, we have the problems of growing pains:

·       A tiny lobby/narthex with real ‘people traffic’ jams

·       We need more gathering space to welcome people, meet and talk

·       Our restrooms are too small, inadequate and not welcoming to physically handicapped or disabled people.

·       We need a larger gathering space, a better welcome center & a real elevator

·       We need immediate access to our main building from the parking or drop off areas.

·       We need more small group gathering space

·       We need an updated and larger media (audio-visual) room

·       We need better easier access into our worship center and Fellowship Hall

·       We want an open and inviting addition to our building’s primary entrance which proclaims welcome!

·       And we want more natural light.
